Morgan Wallen's mom isn't having it. The country singer's mother took to Instagram last week to do something mommy after the Nashville Metro City Council denied the singer's request to install a large outdoor sign (or “aerial encroachment” as they put it) for the short -open This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen because of the country star's past incidents.
“Well Morgan, the city of Nashville says 'Thank you for all your help bringing in millions,'” Lesli Wallen posted on Chord Chora Instagram feed along with a recent headline that read: “Morgan Wallen throws big shade at Nashville Councilman Jordan Huffman who says he doesn't 'belong in the city.' an aerial view of one of his recent sold-out run of three shows at the city's 69,000-capacity Nissan Stadium.
On May 21, council members voted “no” to the restaurant's developer's request to put up a 20-foot-tall outdoor sign advertising downtown's latest celebrity-themed restaurant. Thirty council members voted against the sign, with only three members voting in favor and four abstaining. Some of the council members cited Wallen's past controversial incidents — including using a racial slur in January 2021 and his felony arrest last month for throwing a chair off the six-story roof of Eric Church's Chief bar — as reasons rejecting the sign.
Counselor at Large Delisha Porterfield was among those who referred to Morgan's past behavior in rejecting the point.
The facility was originally scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend, but as of Tuesday no new opening date had been announced. “We want to make sure Nashville is a supportive place for everyone, so I don't want to see a billboard with the name of a person who throws chairs off balconies and makes racist slurs, using the n-word, so I'm voting no,” he wrote. Porterfield.
Wallen was arrested in April on three felony counts of reckless endangerment and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct after he allegedly threw a chair off the roof, an incident Porterfield referenced in an X post. “We just voted down a resolution authorizing an airstrike in the name of Morgan Wallen,” he said. “Yes THAT Morgan Wallen. The one who throws chairs & uses racial slurs. No! No thanks. Try it in a small town….better yet…don't try it all,” he added, with “small town” sounding a bit like Jason Aldean's controversial 2023 single “Try That in a Small Town”.
At the time of publication the restaurant's Instagram account still said it was “coming soon”, with fans commenting that it was frustrated by the delay.
