Motörhead's current series of live recordings, The lost tapes, is collected in a new eight-CD box set arriving on February 23rd. Also, a fifth volume in the series, Live at Donington Download Fest '08has been announced as part of the box set and as a standalone vinyl release.
Motörhead camp opened The lost tapes series in 2021, restoring previously unreleased Motörhead concert recordings obtained from cassette tapes discovered in the archives of the late Lemmy Kilmister.
“[Cassettes] “They were a standard part of every tour… Motörhead was certainly no exception, recording show after show,” reads the press release for the box set. “They contain gold, pure auditory gold, and for many years they were hundreds of feet underground in a small cave owned by Lemmy, guarded by little furry centurions with Roman armor, small spears, and bad attitudes. Only the magic password would free them, and luckily, Lem had scribbled it down and left it inside an old sketchbook for us.”
“There were a lot of dirty, dusty, greasy tapes,” according to the press release, which were then made available through “carefully digitized transfers.”
The CD case contains the recently announced fifth volume (Live at Donington Download Fest '08) as well as the four previous volumes, which were originally released on vinyl and digitally: Living in Madrid 1995; Living in Norwich 1998; Living in Malmö 2000; and Living in Heilbronn 1984.
The lost tapes The CD box set arrives on February 23 and can be pre-ordered here. Meanwhile, the independent vinyl release of Live at Donington Download Fest '08 It also comes out on February 23 and can be pre-ordered here.
