“This song takes place within the magnetic force of being really attracted to someone and still feeling like it's going to work,” Gavin said of “Aftestaste” in a press statement. “Sometimes it's fun to give in to that feeling – I think a lot of songwriters have a strong connection to romantic fantasy.”
Gavin added: “Naomi McPherson helped me come up with the idea for the video, which features me taking a nude drawing class, and Alexa Viscius co-directed with me and brought in an amazing team of Chicago creatives to bring it to life. to bear fruit. Shooting in my hometown felt very right to introduce this solo work. Back to my roots, if you will.”
What a relief includes a song with Mitski called “As Good as It Gets”. Discussing her new album, Gavin said: “This record covers a lot of my life – it's about a really deep desire to connect, but also meeting all the obstacles that stood in my way to be able to achieve that. this, patterns of isolation or even boredom with the actual work of love. What a relief explores it and portrays it honestly, without shame.”
Muna recently performed at Pitchfork Music festival 2024, playing tracks from Muna, He saves the world, and more. The pop trio also performed “Ironic” with headliner Alanis Morissette.
