Nas and DJ Premier have made musical magic together throughout their ongoing careers, and the promise of a joint album between the pair looks set to be confirmed as fact. The pair linked up for the track “Define My Name,” with Nas hinting at his long-awaited collaboration with DJ Premier.
Premier fans know to expect hard hitting drums, heavy bass and expert scratching on the hook from the legendary producer and member of Gang Starr. Nas, who has proven to be in great form lyrically during his recent run with Hit-Boy, has lost none of that momentum on all three King's disease projects and the Magic trio.
From “Define My Name”:
The definition of my name probably started there/I rode the E train, fingers covered in ink stains/Writin' was like an escape, excited let the beat burn/It was Ra, Kane, Kool G and Kris/A few names like Cool James , “Face, Cube and Rick
The bar work is usually excellent, but some fans felt that the track from Premier wasn't strong enough. However, Nas mentioning that “it's album time” near the end of the track caught Hip-Hop Xitter's interest. The duo has been teasing this mythical pairing for years and now all signs point to it actually happening.
DJ Premier produced three tracks from Nas' classic debut album, Illmaticso it's only fitting that they're putting out that new heat today to celebrate three decades of creative excellence.
Also, Nas announced on Friday (April 19) that he will embark on his Illmatic 30-Year Anniversary Tour across Europe and the UK this fall. learn more here.
