In the midst of promoting her sophomore set GREASENathy Peluso visited NPR headquarters in Washington, DC for an intimate appearance at the Tiny Desk.
“We're fulfilling another dream today with these wonderful people by my side,” Peluso said, wearing an oversized black T-shirt and shaking her long, straight hair. “Thank you all for coming. We'll start with a magical song that has been with me since I wrote it. Enjoy, have fun!”
The nearly 19-minute set began with “Buenos Aires,” the R&B-tinged 2020 tune that eventually put Peluso on the map and was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Joined by eight musicians and two singers, Peluso delivered a powerful performance that captured her strong rap bars and effortless vocals, all while sending messages of self-love and empowerment as heard on the following tracks “Aprender a Amar” and “Legendario . ”
“My new album has gems from the heart, from deep inside, from love, for you that I made with the desire to make you emotional,” he expressed. “Ultimately, that's what it's all about.”
One of those gems is 'Envidia', a song she performed with only piano accompaniment that tells the story of a woman who hums, follows her dreams and ignores all the negative comments. It's a song for those who know how to win in life. Peluso then wrapped up her set with the funk-jazzy “Remedio.” “Thank you, we feel blessed. Be happy, listen to “Grasa” and live music!” he signed.
Earlier this year, the Argentine-born, Spanish singer-songwriter opened up Advertising sign for her new album, which can easily be reflected in her performance on Tiny Desk.
“There's a very important message on the album, 'Aprender a Amarse' (learn to love yourself), which is something we all deserve, because at the end of the day, you have to be your own best friend and partner. . she noted. “For that, you have to be brave and face things that are very difficult. [I wanted to] shed some light and energy so that people who maybe don't find that strength in their daily lives, maybe put on some music and feel encouraged. Because music has saved me many times.”
