Nick Cave and his long-time collaborator Warren Ellis have teamed up to score the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic. Back to black.
Cave and Ellis composed “between 20 and 30 minutes” of music for the film's soundtrack. Additionally, Cave has contributed a new song called “Song for Amy” that will appear on the soundtrack.
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians I had in mind to compose Back to black” director Sam Taylor-Johnson said in a statement. “Over the years I have listened to everything they have written and I longed to make the dream of working together come true. “His sensitivity and understanding of this story have resulted in a profoundly profound and moving soundtrack.”
The soundtrack also includes six songs by Winehouse, as well as five songs by artists who inspired her, including Billie Holliday and The Shangri-Las. It will be released on May 17.
Cave and Ellis recently composed the soundtrack for Netflix's Marilyn Monroe biopic. Blond after previously creating soundtracks for film and television productions such as The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford, The wayand DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. In 2021 they released the collaborative album. Butcher shop. They also recently announced a new album as The Bad Seeds, wild godwhich will be released on August 30.
Back to black It was directed by Taylor-Johnson (Boy from nowhere) from a screenplay written by Matt Greenhalgh. Starring Marisa Abela, the film chronicles the singer's early years as a jazz musician in north London and her turbulent journey to fame.
The cast is completed by Jack O'Connell as Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil; Eddie Marsan as Mitch, Winehouse's father; and Lesley Manville as her grandmother, Cynthia. The biopic will feature Abela performing many of the late artist's hits thanks to the full support of Winehouse's estate.
