Nick Cave has written a ton of songs, but he's recently come to grips with the process, calling songwriting “a fucking nightmare” in a new interview.
Speaking to MOJO, The musician expressed his discomfort with the act of sitting down and writing a song. “I don’t like writing songs. Writing a song is a deeply mysterious, abstract, anxiety-ridden process that’s just not fun,” Cave said. “Playing with the kid is fine, but getting him out of there is a fucking nightmare. So I put it off until I can’t put it off anymore.”
Despite all these obstacles, Cave managed to release 10 songs for his next album with his band Bad Seeds. Wild Godwhich arrives on August 30th. While the air of Wild God is one that is both “complicated” and “joyful and infectious,” Cave also spoke about his heartbreaking 2019 album. Ghostwhich featured themes around grief and the loss of Cave's son, Arthur, in 2015.
“I'm happy it exists, but it was a painful thing to do,” Cave said. MOJO On the creation of Ghost. “I hate hearing bands talk about the pain of making a record, because I don't believe them. But Ghost It had its agonies, no doubt, and it is not something I want to repeat.”
Wild God is the eighteenth studio album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; Cave and the band had previously shared “Wild God” and “Frogs” as the first tracks from the LP. Meanwhile, Nick Cave teamed up with longtime collaborator Warren Ellis for the soundtrack to the new Amy Winehouse biopic. Back to blackfor which they also shared their “Song for Amy.”
