The rapper was forced to postpone a gig in Manchester, England, last Saturday after being stopped by security “on suspicion of exporting soft drugs”
Nicki Minaj’s concert in Amsterdam this weekend was canceled after the rapper was detained at the city’s airport last weekend over what she said was marijuana in her luggage.
The concert was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 2, at the Ziggo Dome. A note on the concert listing from the promoter said, “Due to the events of last week, the Nicki Minaj show of June 2 in Ziggo Dome Amsterdam has been canceled. Buyers will automatically receive the purchase amount back.”
A rep for Minaj did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.
The original incident occurred last Saturday, May 25, after Minaj played her first show at the Ziggo Dome. She was set to leave the city for England, where she was scheduled to play in Manchester that night. The rapper was stopped by security, with Minaj writing on social media, “now they said they found weed & that another group of ppl have to come here to weigh the pre-rolls. Keep in mind they took my bags without consent. My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him.”
In a post on Twitter, the Netherlands military police confirmed that they had arrested an unnamed 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport “on suspicion of exporting soft drugs.” They said that after speaking with prosecutors, the “suspect was fined” and allowed to “continue her journey.” (While weed is legal in Amsterdam, it is illegal to export it.)
Minaj claimed the detainment led to her “sitting in a jail cell for 5-6 hours,” and she was ultimately forced to postpone her show in Manchester (a rescheduled date has yet to be announced). She also posted several videos throughout the incident and live-streamed some of her interactions with the authorities, including one in which she was detained and placed in a police vehicle.
The European leg of Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 tour will continue through mid-July. She’ll then kick off another North American leg starting Sept. 4 in Philadelphia and wrapping Oct. 11 at UBS Arena in New York.
