Niousha Noor joins Kyle Meredith to talk about The Persian version. Also starring Layla Mohammadi, the film focuses loosely on the life of Maryam Keshavarz and tells the story of a young gay Iranian-American who is often at odds with her family.
The actress discusses how the film focuses on an immigrant family in an authentic and fresh way, as well as the combative relationship between mother and daughter. Noor also explains why music is so central to the project (from '80s pop to '00s indie rock), his fandom for *NSYNC, and how he recorded a Persian version of Damien Rice's “Under the Tongue” that it ultimately became the catalyst for their friendship.
“Somehow I found his manager, played him the song and he really enjoyed it. Now we are friends and I have already seen him in two shows,” she explains. “The idea that Damien Rice is listening to this very Persian version of his own song and liked it, is just a great honor.”
