Noah Kahan he may say that “I like to play the victim”, but he is not afraid to applaud his colleague Chapel Roan for unacceptable behavior.
Rohan made headlines on the 2024 MTV VMAs red carpet on Wednesday (September 11) when she confronted a photographer who appeared to tell her to “shut the f–k up” when she briefly turned away from the cameras. “Shut the fk up!” the pop singer clapped back. “Not me, b—h.”
The “Stick Season” singer. republication a clip from the encounter at X, telling fans about his own less-than-ideal experiences with rude photographers throughout his career. “I will never forget leaving [the] Clive Davis [pre-Grammy gala] and freaking photographers and paparazzi or whatever they were telling me in front of my sweet mom who couldn't believe it was actually happening,” Kahan wrote. “I love the way @ChappellRoan stands up for yourself.”
When a fan pointed out a lack of professionalism from some photographers, Kahan was quick to answerclarifying that “most people I have interacted with are polite and professional.” However, he said the few who misbehave sour the whole experience. “There are some vermin who deliberately instigate confrontations with caring people who are there to live a dream in order to further their own interests. It's so toxic and I'm telling them about it.”
Off the red carpet, Roan had a big night at the VMAs. Along with wowing the audience with a Joan of Arc-inspired rendition of her hit song 'Good Luck, Babe', Roan took home the night's trophy for Best New Artist. In her acceptance speech, Roan dedicated the award to the drag community, her fellow queer and trans performers, and especially the “queer kids in the Midwest” who watched her. “I see you. I understand you, because I am one of you,” he said.
