NOFX will play their final shows later this year, but the punk veterans aren't done releasing new music. Fat Mike and company have announced a five-song collection titled Half album, available April 19 via Fat Wreck Chords. As a teaser, they shared the lead single, “I'm a Rat.”
In a press release, Mike described Half album as the fifth side of a double album that also combines their last two full-length films, 2021 single album and 2022 double album. “All of these songs were recorded at the same time,” she explained. “It just takes me a while to get shit done. So this is me tying up loose ends, which is very good for the soul.”
Meanwhile, lead single “I'm a Rat” has an interesting origin story. Written by Mike, it contains 54 chords and was first recorded by Japanese punk band Hi-Standard before a second version was included on last year's album. Fat Mike chains himself up. The attached video presents a parody of the Willie the steamboat Version of Mickey Mouse nicknamed Steamboat Fatty, who gets up to all kinds of mischief. Watch it below.
NOFX fans will be happy to know. Half album It's not officially the band's last album, as Fat Mike has “many more in the works,” according to a press release. Instead, it is described as “the beginning of the end (or the end of the beginning of the future) of NOFX as we know them.”
