Long before Offset's days of fame as one-third of the great Atlanta rap group Migos, he got his start in entertainment while dancing for Whitney Houston. During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Friday (March 8), Offset recalled impressing the music icon with his slick moves when he auditioned for a dancer role as an 8-year-old around 2000.
“My mom saw a sign that said you could come and try. I pulled up. I remember my mom telling me that I'll never forget, “When the music comes on, just go out there and do your thing,” she shared. “I was smaller than everyone else. Everyone was 11 or something, and I was 8. Then I did it.”
“I remember he came from behind and pointed at me. When we shot the video, she was just a nice, sweet soul. Bobby Brown was cool too. He made us laugh. He was cool. Yes, both of them. I have a lot of cameos too.”
Offset's moves earned him a backup dancer role on Houston's “Whatchulookinat,” which landed on the late singer's song. Only Whitney album in 2002. The Bobby Brown-produced single hit the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 96.
Whitney wasn't the only legendary artist she danced to as a child. He also made an appearance in a album-1235621921/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TLC video.
Elsewhere in the interview, Offset revealed his initial hesitation to quit his impossible addiction, as he felt the purple drink — codeine and promethazine cough syrup mixed with soda — fueled his creativity.
“I drank a lot. For a minute, my younger brain was like, “This is what gives me the sauce to put the songs on.” But I started to see it affecting my family. I have five children — I'm an adult and I have to take care of the house,” he said.
“I saw it and the people who love me the most like my mom were saying, 'Hey son, you know you're stronger than that. You gotta shake it,” said the artist, who shares daughter Kulture and son Wave with Cardi B. He is also father to sons Jordan and Cody, and daughter Kalea from previous relationships. “When I shook it off, I was able to make strong songs. I felt like I could record the day and become more complete. I noticed people telling me my attitude or how I speak was clearer.”
