Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan saw an opportunity and took it. After surprising fans with a duet of his latest “Hot to Go!” at the first Guts World tour concert in Los Angeles, the two friends posted a hilarious TikTok exploit of one of the app's latest trends.
In the clip posted on Wednesday (August 21), the “Vampire” singer and “Good Luck, Babe!” artist stands on the floor of the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. “I hope she plays 'Hot to Go!'” Rodrigo says before the video cuts to Roan, who replies, “This is an Olivia Rodrigo concert, b—h.”
At that, Rodrigo just shrugs. But unlike most other creators' TikToks that use the same form of in-joke — implying that an artist might perform a certain song when they're not actually even at that artist's concert — the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series The alum's video is actually limited to footage of her performing “Hot to Go!” on stage with Roan, both doing the YMCA-esque choreography the Missouri native created for her song.
The post comes shortly after Roan – who previously opened for Rodrigo's Guts trek – joined her boyfriend on stage to perform the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess hit, days after a clip of her “Bad Idea, Right?” singer rehearses “Hot to Go!” with her band she made the rounds of the internet. “I've known this next artist for about four years now,” Rodrigo introduced before their energetic performance. “I absolutely adore her. I think she's one of the most unique, inspiring, powerful artists I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I'm so excited that she'll be singing one of my all-time favorite songs with me tonight.”
“Hot to Go!” is currently peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, with Midwest Princess reaching an all-time high so far at No. 2 — just below that of Taylor Swift Department of Tormented Poets — on the Billboard 200 chart dated August 24. Roan has a total of seven songs that make it onto the first album, including 'Good Luck, Babe!', 'Pink Pony Club', 'Casual', 'Red Wine Supernova', 'Feminineomenon' and 'My Kink Is Karma'.
