Bush are getting ready to hit the road to support them Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023 compilation celebrating the band's three-year career. But five weeks after the start of this tour, says singer and founder Gavin Rossdale Advertising sign that he is already looking forward before looking back.
“I'm going to leave here today and go to the studio to work more on the next record,” he says. “I just keep thinking ahead … there's a painstaking, painstaking process like, 'Oh my God, what am I doing? I can't do it, that last song I did was the best song I ever wrote, now what am I going to do?' And then you just go ahead and find it… so this week I'm reaping the benefits of last week's writing and work in the studio when I leave here. I like to live in the moment.”
The 58-year-old frontman and sole remaining original member of the band Glycerine explains that it's very “English” to keep moving and moving on rather than dwelling or touting past achievements. That said, Rossdale says he chooses the 21 songs Loaded it wasn't that heavy, because they essentially constitute a chronological roster of his group's greatest hits.
He's such a planner, though, that Rossdale says he hopes to complete the group's 10th studio album – the 2022 follow-up The Art of Survival — before we hit the road next month. “I'll definitely have a new song out this summer,” he says of his delight in having a new track to play on tour to show fans that things are still “penetrating… all bubbly.”
The 32-date North American Loaded tour will kick off July 26 at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, OR and will feature special guests Alice in Chains guitarist and solo artist Jerry Cantrell and Candlebox. And don't worry, Rossdale says he's more than happy to play the hits people want to hear, so his fans are forced to figure out who's going to get the drinks. “I'm always thinking about the audience experience,” he says.
