Founded in 1963, AIPAC is the most powerful pro-Israel lobby group in the United States. While it has long been influential in US government policy toward Israel, in 2022 the group announced it would launch an affiliated super PAC that would directly participate in elections. In its short existence, the super PAC has taken a dump tens of millions dollars in her efforts to defeat progressive candidates critical of Israel.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, which has resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israelis and over 25,000 Palestinians, AIPAC has launched a concerted effort to ensure continued support for Israel from the US government. As international courts, advocates and human rights organizations criticize Israel's retaliatory attack on Gaza as a gross violation of human rights and even potential genocide, AIPAC continues to press lawmakers to approve political and military support for the country.
On its website, the group has one the entire resource center dedicated to covering the Israel-Gaza war. The page has call centers and emails to help visitors contact legislators, social media toolkitand arena pro-Israeli news outlets, influencers and reporters.
Earlier this month a report from The Intercept found that AIPAC's political action committee donated $95,000 to House Speaker Mike Johnson in November — shortly after he helped secure the passage of a $14 billion aid package in Israel on November 3.
While the Oct. 7 attack and the ongoing war have become central to AIPAC's lobbying and fundraising strategy, the organization is expected to work this year to maintain its influence through election spending, especially as criticism mounts of the role of the U.S. States in support of Israel. attack on Gaza.
