Pantera joined the Seahawks Blue Thunder drum lineup for a rendition of “Walk” during their opening set for Metallica at Lumen Field in Seattle on Friday (August 30).
The metal veterans were performing the classic song as they usually do, but after the second chorus, the Seahawks' drummer took the stage to a roaring ovation from the locals.
Pantera drummer Charlie Benante stayed focused on the song's very deliberate and precise rhythm as the drums were placed around him. It appeared to be a fairly loose, possibly unrehearsed performance, as the drum members (and especially the guys with the marching cymbals) seem to be freely forming along with Benante. They are not exactly punctual, but it adds charm because everyone is having fun.
The collaboration echoes Benante’s previous appearance alongside Blue Thunder’s drummer in January 2023. On that occasion, Benante was a guest of the Seahawks at Lumen Field and appeared during their game against the Los Angeles Rams in the rain to play Anthrax’s “Walk” and “Indians” with Blue Thunder. After the performance, Benante called them “a great drum set” and wrote that he even “learned a trick or two.”
The Seattle show closed out Pantera's support dates with Metallica, though they have one more U.S. performance scheduled for 2024 at the Aftershock Festival (get tickets) here) in October before embarking on a European tour in 2025. Buy tickets for the European shows here.
