A lot of responsibility comes with being a professional athlete. Patrick Mahomes commented on his behavior off the field Rushie Rice and Harrison Baker.
This week the Kansas City Chiefs began their organized team activities. As expected, their star quarterback spoke to the press and took a few questions about his teammates Harrison Butker and Rushie Rice. Earlier this month, Butker made some very polarizing comments during a speech he gave at Benedictine College, where he suggested that the crowd of female graduates would find more personal fulfillment in their lives by being housewives. In addition, he took a strong stand against the LGBT+ community.
Patrick Mahomes made it clear he doesn't share Butker's thoughts. “There are certain things that he said that I don't necessarily agree with, but I understand the person that he is and he's trying to do what he can to steer people in the right direction,” Patrick said. “And those may not be the same values as me. But at the same time, I will judge him by the character he shows every day. He's a great man, and we're going to keep moving forward and trying to help each other build each other up to be better every day,” he added.
Rashee Rice has also been a topic of discussion since the wide receiver was involved in a serious car accident in Dallas last month. Additionally, he is allegedly involved in an attack that took place at a Dallas nightclub on May 6. Patrick Mahomes expressed his support and said that nobody is perfect. “I think we're just trying to do what we can to teach him how to learn from his mistakes,” he said. “I mean, obviously, it was a big mistake. But you have to learn from it, make sure it doesn't happen again and try to do everything you can to be the best person in society, not only for yourself but also for the people around you.”
The Kansas City Chiefs open the 2024 NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5.
