The electronic music scene is constantly evolving, and thanks to openly vulnerable artists like Patrick Topping, sober raves are becoming increasingly common.
The renowned house music DJ and producer recently visited X to announce a new party he's hosting, “Sober October,” and spoke about the effects touring without alcohol has had on his life. Topping wouldn't announce a date, but said the event will take place later this month.
“I started playing sober in 2017 and it changed my relationship with music and partying and greatly improved my mental and physical health,” he wrote.
Acknowledging that nearly every venue sells alcohol, Topping continued: “I love underground dance music, and there are so many positive aspects to the community that I'm not trying to downplay – this is my life and my passion – but there can also be a dark side, which I myself have been a part of.”
Topping then encouraged fans to reach out to him via X to select the location for his “Sober October” rave, which opened the floodgates for an outpouring of support.
“From my own experience, I think this puts a lot more focus back on the music,” she added. “I know a small group of people who go to sober events and love it. I want to create an experience where as many people as possible can experience this thrill.”
Topping's announcement comes amid boom Movement of the “sober curious”where adopters strive to control their drinking habits to benefit all facets of their health.
