Rewinding to 2012, McCready delved into his side projects, from his UFO tribute band Flight to Mars to The Rockfords and his pre-Pearl Jam band Shadow. The guitarists talked about how he took (and continues to take) bands like Kiss, Van Halen and Aerosmith. Then came the big news (at the time): the announcement that he would be celebrating Mad Season, his one-off band with Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, with a deluxe edition reissue.
A year later, the 2013 interview picks up where 2012 left off, with Mad Season. McCready tells the story of how they recorded three songs with Mark Lanegan and another couple with Killing Joke's Jaz Coleman. McCready then delves into the dark period of making the record and how he attempted to help Staley cleanse himself of his addictions. When it is pointed out that McCready has played with almost all of Seattle's most famous singers, he reflects on the brief moment when he tried to start a project with Nirvana's Kurt Cobain.
