Pentagon debunks Fox News conspiracy theory that Taylor Swift is political 'asset'

The Pentagon is shutting down one of Fox News' weirdest conspiracy theories.

After Fox News host Jesse Watters suggested this week that Taylor Swift could be “a front for a hidden political agenda,” the Department of Defense shared a statement Wednesday (January 9) denying the claims, according to Politico.

“It's true. The Pentagon's psy-op unit asked NATO to turn Taylor Swift into an asset to fight online disinformation,” Watters said during the show, sharing a video from a 2019 conference held from the NATO Cooperative Cyber ​​Defense Center of Excellence, in which a presenter names Swift as an example of a powerful influencer.

In response, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh referred to Swift 1989 hit “Shake It Off” in a statement noting, “as for this conspiracy theory, it's going to shake it off.”

Singh continued with the report-laden statement, “But this underscores that we still need Congress to pass our supplemental budget request as quickly as possible so that we can out of the forest with possible fiscal concerns.”
