Jane’s Addiction’s show in Boston on Friday night (September 13th) ended after singer Perry Farrell got into a physical confrontation with guitarist Dave Navarro onstage. At one point the frontman even threw a punch at the axeman.
Footage from the concert at Leader Bank Pavilion shows Navarro playing a solo during “Ocean Size,” the 11th song in the set, when Farrell walks over and angrily shoves Navarro. The two exchange words with the guitarist trying to hold Farrell back, but the singer then throws a punch at Navarro that hits him on his upper torso.

From there, the crew and bassist Eric Avery grab Farrell and drag him backstage, with the show abruptly ending. Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins (who was celebrating his birthday on Friday night) eventually make their way to the front of the stage and say goodnight to the crowd.
A photographer named Brian Mackenzie, who says he was there shooting the show, posted on X, “Perry had a huge bottle of wine with him all evening, Navarro and Avery kept chatting with each other the whole show and seemed angrier than normal.”
He continued, “Everyone (us included) thought it was a bit. A weird one, but, like, it was almost encore time and it seemed like ONE way to have the band leave the stage (only to return to thunderous applause) but .. 2 minutes later, house lights and walk-out music and show was over!”
Previous concerts on the tour had seen the band performing between 12 and 15 songs, so the show was nearly over when the confrontation took place.
This year marks the first time the full classic lineup of Jane’s Addiction is touring in 14 years, with Navarro returning to the band earlier this year after a battle with long COVID. He had been absent from the band when Avery rejoined the lineup in 2022.
Earlier in the week, Farrell had been apologetic to fans about his vocals at the band’s show at Pier 17 in New York City, telling the crowd, per Variety, “Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice. I just can’t get the notes out all of a sudden.”
As of now, Jane’s Addiction’s North American tour with Love and Rockets is set to resume on Sunday night (September 15th) in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and run through an October 16th show in Los Angeles (with tickets to the upcoming shows available here).
