The artist, born Peter Anthony Morgan, was the son of Jamaican musician Denroy Morgan.
Peter Anthony Morgan, lead singer of reggae band Morgan Heritage, has died. The artist, who often went by “Peetah,” was 46, according to reports from the Associated Press, though a statement shared on social media by his family did not specify his age.
“It is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved husband, father, son and brother and singer of Morgan Heritage Peter Anthony Morgan has gone up today,” Morgan's family said in a statement. “Yah, come and save us from ourselves because love is the only way.”
Cause of death was not reported.
Morgan was the son of Jamaican musician Denroy Morgan, who died in 2022. He performed at the Morgan Heritage along with his siblings Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamiyah “Lukes” Morgan and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan. At the time at the time of his death, he was one of three active members of the band, alongside Gramps and Mr. Mojo.
The musician was born in Brooklyn but grew up in Massachusetts, where he began playing music as a child. It was during a visit to their father's birthplace in Jamaica that the brothers really began to find their rhythm. With Morgan at the helm as lead singer, Morgan Heritage became well known for their expressive vocal delivery and fundamental harmonies.
Morgan Heritage has been nominated for two Grammy Awards during their career. Their 2015 album Strictly Roots was awarded Best Reggae album.
