Tyler, The Creator has long looked up to Pharrell and what he's been able to accomplish in music as well as the world of fashion. Tyler himself has been designing clothing for over a decade through his Golf Wang brand, and Skateboard P is giving him the opportunity of a lifetime.
Pharrell, who serves as men's creative director at Louis Vuitton, tapped his “Cash In, Cash Out” partner to design a capsule collection for the iconic French fashion house.
“Tyler has been a close friend and collaborator of mine for years and we've always connected through music and design,” said Pharrell. GQ. “This partnership is unique to Louis Vuitton because it is a natural extension of our philosophy at LVERS, based on our network of incredible artists and creatives. There are so many elements specific to Tyler built into these pieces and it was inspiring to watch him hone his craft and work with him for this spring collection.”
GQ got a first look at the colorful clothing that serves as the brainchild of Tyler, the Creator. The pieces will be available on March 21 as part of the LV Spring 2024 collection.
Dubbed 'Craggy Monogram', the stylish capsule features a range of items that Tyler himself would wear, whether it's a blue turtleneck knit vest, pastel shoes or Bermuda shorts.
“My main focus was making things that I would wear all the time,” he said GQ. “I dress the same for a meeting as I do for a field trip to a show or a trip to the grocery store, so hand-painting the monogram felt like the perfect balance.”
Tyler has a keen eye for accessories and didn't hold back with his LV debut. There is a collector's cereal bowl, as well as a leather golf bag with a Damier towel and collector's headgear for those who hit the links.
The Grammy-winning rapper, who loves trunks and boasts one of the rarest luggage collections of any celebrity, leaned into it by designing an entire set of trunks, including the fashion house's largest with the Courrier Lozine 110, which it will retail for a staggering €68,000, which is about $73,560. There's even a piece that comes equipped with a chess set for those ready to sit down for a game anytime or anywhere.
“The chessboard is one of the best things I've made and it's definitely my favorite thing from the collection,” Tyler added to GQ. “The team was great to work with – it was like that Large with Tom Hanks. P always left a door open for me, but I still can't believe it.”
