PinkPantheress has revealed that her hearing loss was caused by microphone feedback.
After cancelling a June 2022 performance in Spain due to “partial hearing loss”, the Just For Me singer has opened up about her ailment’s cause.
“My hearing isn’t as good as it used to be,” she said on The Louis Theroux Podcast. “Because of a microphone going too close to a speaker.”
“At first, it was just a really annoying ringing and I thought it was going to be fine,” she continued. “But it happened on the day, and ever since that day – even on the day it happened – I was trying to find some weird ear drops and I thought that was going to help, I thought it was going to be fine in the coming weeks – it just kept going down to the point now where I can’t hear a lot of high stuff.”
The 22-year-old described her current hearing, saying, “It sounds like if somebody took your voice and removed all the high end and it was just bass.”
Although the incident affected her right ear, the singer, real name Victoria Walker, confirmed that her left ear remained unaffected.
In March last year, the Boy’s a Liar hitmaker spoke to BBC News about losing 80% of her hearing in one ear.
“To state the obvious, making music has gotten harder,” she said at the time. “But I honestly did all my mourning already. Like, I’ve really done that.”
Explaining that the deterioration “happened gradually”, the musician shared, “I told myself that, whatever happens, you still have another good working ear. As long as you protect that, you’re going to be fine. I just try not to think about it.”
