New York indie rock band Pom Pom Squad has announced The mirror starts moving without metheir second album, which is due out everywhere on October 25. They have also shared “Spinning,” the second single from the album.
Pom Pom Squad is fronted by Brooklyn musician Mia Berrin, who performs alongside guitarist Alex Mercuri and drummer Shelby Keller. The group previously shared the grunge track “Downhill,” which was Pom Pom Squad’s first new work since 2021. Now, the former CoSign alum is back with 11 new tracks that draw inspiration from childhood, mental health, and identity.
“I was very inspired by my younger self for this album,” Berrin said in a press release. “I wanted to reconnect with my creative roots. After going through a particularly rough creative block, I challenged myself to make a playlist of my all-time favorite songs, from childhood to adulthood. It was healing in a way I didn’t expect! Before we went into the studio, I asked my bandmates and Cody to do the same, then we all listened to each other’s songs and had a long conversation about them. During the sessions, I was able to share my thoughts and thoughts with my friends and family. Mirror “We were all pulling references from our collective playlists more than anything else.”
“Spinning” is the latest single from Mirrorand encompasses much of the album’s themes around identity, acknowledging one’s past, and accepting oneself. Written with Jessica Boudreaux, Becca Ryskalczyk, Alina Sloan, and PVRIS’ Lynn Gunn, “Spinning” utilizes a syncopated electric guitar attack and driving drums to build momentum while Berrin’s vocals guide the track to a place of clarity.
