The track marks the first new music from Mia Berrin & Co. from 2021 Death of a cheerleader
Team Pom Pom are back with “Downhill”, their first new single in three years.
The track is a grunge-y summer banger that opens with a scorching riff and Mia Berrin's vocals. It's a fitting return for the Brooklyn band, with lines like “I'm coming back from the dead” and a charmingly cheeky twist at the end as Berrin exclaims, “Get in, we're going down a fucking hill!”
“In my day-to-day life, I'm pretty reserved and shy, so it's weird, even for me, that I feel this pull to be on stage — to put my music on and open up to what that entails,” Berrin said. . in a statement. “When I was writing 'Downhill' I was thinking a lot about the push between these opposite sides of my personality. Sometimes being ambitious is like being self-destructive and I wanted to explore the line between the two. Also, it's been almost three years since I've released anything new, so this song feels like my reintroduction to the world. The Pom Pom Squad is back, baby!”
“Downhill” follows Pom Pom Squad's first new music since their 2021 full-length debut, Death of a cheerleader. “The title of the album was an attempt for me to kill an idea of femininity that I did for other people – the version of the cheerleader that I hid inside a cloak of conventional femininity that didn't fit everyone. Berin said Rolling rock. “Definitely not the right size for me.”
