Here are the most successful Christmas songs that have reached number 1 on the chart. Billboard graphics.
Evan Burke:
Oh, it's definitely that time of year as Mariah reminded us, but while everyone raises the mood on their Yuletide playlist every year during the holidays, only three Christmas songs have topped the Billboard Hot 100. We'll tell you who's popping this one week. Cultural rewind.
In 1958, “The Chipmunks Song” by The Chipmunks featuring David Sevilla spent four weeks at the top starting in December. In fact, he started what would become the multi-million-dollar Alvin and the Chipmunks brand and won three Grammy Awards.
When you say Queen of Christmas, only one name comes to mind. Mariah Carey's “All I Want for Christmas Is You” topped the chart for the first time in 2019.
It was his 19th number one song, the most for any solo artist.
Mariah Carey:
Thank you to everyone who allowed this song to be part of your Christmas soundtrack each year.
Evan Burke:
And this year alone, only the third Christmas song reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and it was Brenda Lee with “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.” “Christmas Tree” comes 65 years after the songs were released in 1958. And with Brenda now 78 years old, she has become the oldest artist to top the chart. Cheers, Mrs. Lee!
