Aretha Franklin placed 20 singles at the top of Billboard's R&B and Hip-Hop Songs chart during her career that began in the 1950s. Frankly, her catalog is the soul of American music and two of her hits reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Franklin earned a Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Arts in 1987, became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and who could forget when she tore down the Kennedy Center house in 2016, and even made President Obama cry.
