Ben Gibbard will re-release The Postal Service after a two-year long tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band's only album, Abandon.
According to a press release, The Postal Service's upcoming appearance at HFStival in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 23, will mark “the beginning of an indefinite hiatus for the band.”
Throughout the tour, Gibbard has been pulling double duty, performing with both The Postal Service and his other band, Death Cab for Cutie. Shows have included double bills celebrating 20 years of Abandon and the taxi of death Transatlanticism.
“Having the opportunity to perform these two albums live has been one of the greatest thrills and honors of my entire life,” Gibbard said in a statement. “On behalf of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service, thank you so much for coming out and singing with us. We’ll see you all again sometime.”
After their first tour between 2001 and 2005, The Postal Service briefly reunited in 2013 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Abandon. So we'll probably see them again in another 10 years or so.
