In recent years, singer/songwriter Ari. B. Ingber has been involved in a prolific string of folk and country solo records, debuting with his 2021 effort Tiemann Place and follows a series of five new albums. He most recently returned last year with his latest record, moon phases, and today it teases another album, CALIPERproduced by Michael Harris (HAIM, Angel Olsen, Fleet Foxes).
The album is due out later this year, and to accompany the news, Ingber also shares a new single, “That's The Way She Was,” which will premiere with Under the Radar.
Ingber says of the new track, “This song is like patchwork furniture made from loose seams. There is nothing seamless about it.” In that vein, “That's The Way She Was” occupies a deeply intimate space, driven by spacious and light instrumentation and Ingber's hushed vocal performance. Spectral pedal steel, tuned slide guitar and slanted bass lines all meander through the track, giving it a hushed, understated presence. The resulting piece is worn and intimate, but also shows a timeless beauty, imbued with a sense of gentle nostalgia that runs beneath the melancholic sheen.
Listen to the track below. The track appears on Ingber's latest album CALIPERwhich is expected to be released later this year.
