Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Cameron Leahy He first got his start in Virginia-based pop punk outfit The Downtown Fiction, but in recent years has been making a stylistic shift toward a heady mix of indie rock and folk, returning last month with a new single, “Critic.” This single was the first taste of Leahy's upcoming solo debut, Dizzy Freedom, is expected to be released on June 7. Today, it follows a second single from the album, “From The Infinite,” premiering on Under the Radar.
Leahy delivers a soft, sunny acoustic cut with “From The Infinite,” traversing laid-back beats and simple guitar lines. Revamped and dynamic lead guitar joins the mix as the song continues, overlaying the track with punchy melodies and soulful indie charm. However, alongside the piece's pastoral glow is a more ruminative side, which finds Leahy drawing cavernous imagery to represent the unknown. Seaside canyons, misty oil rigs and icy moonlight punctuate the song as Leahy's lyrics become insular and contemplative: “I'll think back and think / These endless questions / I can't even now discuss / I can't hide like before / From infinity, I will try.”
Leahy says of the piece, “I like the idea that certain locations on earth have better reception on our internal purity antenna,” Leahy says. “Gates to the past. Ancient places. There is a certain vibrancy to the landscape.”
