Premiere: Sprig Shares New Single “Anything”
New EP The best thing Out April 12th via No Stress Records
March 12, 2024
Austin-based indie pop singer/songwriter Hannah Stomski debuted under the moniker Sprig in 2020, releasing a string of early singles alongside her debut EP. What life would be like. Her music offers a restrained and swirling mix of bedroom folk and indie pop, imbued with the same reverberation, atmospheric production and bittersweet melancholy of indie acts such as Alvvays, Slow Pulp or The Japanese House.
Most recently, she's been teasing her upcoming sophomore EP, The best thing, sharing a number of new singles from the record over the past year and returning most recently with her latest effort, “Together Again.” Today, he returns with the EP's fifth and final single, “Anything,” premiering on Under the Radar.
'Anything' is a wonderful and murky portrait of a relationship on the brink of dissolution, reflecting on the moments just before it all falls apart. Stomski captures these moments in a glassy dream pop prism, floating in a floating reverie of pillowy harmonies, shimmering instrumentation and a glossy pop hook. As her vocal melodies drift over feathery synth beds, Stomski offers numb and hurt confessions: “I can't feel you anymore / I can't feel it anymore / Not at all / Not at all.”
Stomski explains of the track, “'Anything' is an honest reflection of a relationship reaching its absolute breaking point. It is a cathartic release of the deep realization that sometimes, despite our best efforts, there is nothing left to save. The song echoes the numbness that washes over you afterward, and sonically, I wanted to amplify that feeling through organic textures—like water washing away, mirroring the ebb and flow of the tide. Working with August Pemberton (Imagiro) to pull this off in production was amazing.”
