Icelandic musician and visual artist Sunna Margrét debuted a series of EPs in recent years, referencing experimental and electronic strains of art pop, synth pop and trip hop. She most recently returned last year with her third EP, Five songs for swimmingfollowed by another new single, “Chocolate,” the lead single from her upcoming debut album, Finger on the Tongue. Today, he's back with another new track, “Come With Me,” premiering on Under the Radar.
“Come With Me” is an icy and hypnotic ode to female pleasure, driven by haunting beats, shadowy post punk guitars and surprising synth lines. Margrét lists Depeche Mode and New Order as influences, but the track is more futuristic than retro, filled with glitzy loops and left-handed beats. Meanwhile, Margrét's vocals are sultry yet distant, offering inviting invitations between the dance beats. At times, the results seem like an illusory heavenly dream, with Margrét's vocals echoing the track's sensuous chorus: “Touch me there / Touch me there”.
As Margrét explains, “I wanted to dance, so I made upbeat music,” while the lyrics explore themes of female sexuality and unmet needs in relationships. “Mainly because in our culture men tend to 'come first' in every sense of the word,” says Margrét.
