Under the moniker your hands, Danish singer/songwriter Johannes Brandstrup creates a comfortable, charming and folksy style of indie pop. He's already shared a handful of singles, most recently with last year's “down here wait” and tomorrow he'll be sharing his upcoming debut EP, songs to sing in your kitchen. Ahead of the release, he's sharing an early listen of one of the EP's highlights, “steel is heavier than feathers,” premiering with Under the Radar.
With 'steel is heavier than feathers', Brandstrup offers an open-hearted tribute to uncovering life's unknowns, from candles, bank loans and the loss of a loved one. Brandstrup's musings are sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, sung over a bed of shimmering guitars and breezy melodies. He shapes these tones into a sound that's warm and sunlit, polished with the occasional brassy swell or cool wash of synths. The results are laid-back, but also shine with a soft melodic glow, laced with a subtle grip.
Brandstrup says of the piece, “It's easy to feel incredibly small in a big world full of knowledge. Personally, I have found comfort in surrendering to the naivety and beauty of ignorance. For me, it's okay to embrace wonder and ask those “stupid” questions. In a social setting, it's quite fun – on a psychological level, it often tends to become vulnerable.”
