Primus is looking for a new drummer following the abrupt departure of Tim “Herb” Alexander from the band, and they are opening the position to anyone with skills behind the drums.
A post from the band on social media on Monday (November 18) reads: “We are currently accepting submissions from all points of the universe for the position of Primus drummer/percussionist. We are looking for an educated, affable person, with original sensitivity and aesthetics, eager to open new doors in the creative world.”

The ad continues: “Striking skills are wonderful, but rhythm, pocketbook, and the ability to listen, react, and contribute to the musical conversation are a must. Interested parties can send a resume and recent video presentation to drumsearch@primusville.com.”
After leaving Primus, Alexander explained that he had lost his passion for playing in the band, saying: “A lot of times, you do something you love for a long time and sometimes the passion becomes a job, and other times that job doesn't.” “. I no longer feel like I am your being. “Over time, I started to realize that it was affecting my physical life, my mental life, and my family life, and my heart just wasn't in it.”
Primus holding an open call for drummers is similar to Smashing Pumpkins' search for a new touring guitarist earlier this year. The Pumpkins received over 10,000 submissions and Kiki Wong finally got the job.
Meanwhile, members of Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade will play drums during Primus' New Year's Eve shows at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California on December 30 and 31, while Tool's Danny Carey will perform with Primus during the concert “Live in the Sand Destination Tool Festival” in the Dominican Republic in March.
It can be assumed that whoever gets the drum spot will join Primus on the “Sessanta V2.0” tour with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. That departure begins at the end of April, with tickets available here.
As mentioned in the notice, drummers interested in joining Primus along with singer/bassist Les Claypool and guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde can submit a video pitch to drumsearch@primusville.com.
We are currently accepting applications from all over the universe for the position of Primus drummer/percussionist.
