What does life as an LGBTQ+ professional in the music industry really look like in 2024? That's the question posed by the diversity development nonprofit Queer Capita seeks to answer with new research.
The organization recently unveiled its State of the LGBTQ+ Music Industry Professional Survey, in partnership with Advertising sign and The Orchard. The new questionnaire asks queer workers across the industry a series of questions about identifying as LGBTQ+ in the workplace, community representation across the industry, diversity initiatives, essential resources for LGBTQ+ professionals and more.
All survey submissions will remain anonymous, with the organization enabling respondents to enter their email for a chance to win an Everywhere bag from luggage brand Away. The State of the LGBTQ+ Music Industry Professional Survey is currently available to access on the organization's website, with results to be announced at a later date.
In a statement released at the launch of the inquiry, Co-chairman of Queer Capita Dan Iammatteo explained that the new research aimed to “quantify one of the most important and personal elements of retaining amazing Queer professionals at music companies – emotion”, while also helping to find “steps music companies can take to strengthen their relationships with their Queer employees and customers.”
Since its inception in 2021, Queer Capita has grown its membership to include over 400 LGBTQ+ music industry professionals from over 150 different companies. The organization regularly hosts development workshops, mentoring programs and mixers for their members.
Research can be done Queer Capita's website until May 22.
