Need some new songs from your favorite queer artists? you are lucky – Billboard Pride is proud to present the latest edition of Queer Jams of the Week, our collection of some of the best new music releases from LGBTQ artists.
From Tinashe's amazing new album to Halsey's rocking new track, check out some of our favorite releases from this week below:
Tinashe, Quantum Baby
For the past few months, Tinashe has been asking out loud if anyone could match her freak. Now, the pop star is ready to match her own freak with her brand new album Quantum Baby. Throughout her short 8-song album that serves as a follow-up to the success of lead single 'Nasty', Tinashe showcases her artistry, effortlessly flowing between moving R&B ballads (like on debut album standout 'Red Flags') or gassy anthems (especially the dazzling 'No Broke Boys'). Don't let the scientific title fool you — there's nothing small about it Quantum Baby.
Halsey, “Lonely Is the Muse”
For fans who were hoping to hear more from Halsey If I can't have love, I want power rock sound, “Lonely Is the Muse” is for you. On this heartbreaking new goth rock track, Halsey rages against the inspiration-becomes-commodity cycle she's experienced throughout her career, wondering where in that process she wants to find meaning or joy. Her accolades, countless as they are, don't make up for the empty feeling she translates into this intense rock song, as she boldly declares that she's tired of being “reduced to a body here in someone else's bed.”
The Blessed Madonna feat. Kylie Minogue, “Edge of Saturday Night”
Why let a good party end when you could keep it going? That's the vibe that permeates The Blessed Madonna's delightful new dance track 'Edge of Saturday Night', featuring guest vocals from none other than pop superstar Kylie Minogue. Over a set of Madonna's crunchy pianos and a blistering beat, Minogue tells the story of a party gone right as the pair dive deeper into the night with this brilliant new single.
Pale Waves, “Gravity”
Where Chappell Roan left off with “Good Luck, Babe,” Pale Waves are ready to pick up the baton and run with it. In the band's new dream-inspired song, “Gravity” tells the story of a girl singer Heather Baron-Gracie met who “chose Jesus over me,” as she explains in a statement. Despite her best efforts not to let this girl pull her in, Baron-Gracie cannot resist as he wants to be pulled back into the orbit of her would-be lover. And as the lyrics say, you can essay to resist the orbital pull of this song's shimmering melodies, but we have a feeling you'll find its pull too irresistible.
Hope Tala, “Thank God”
Hope Tala used to feel bad about her breakup – she says “phew” instead. “Thank Goodness,” Tala's excellent new track, sees the singer use her sophisticated neo-soul sound to let her former lover know she's doing much better without them. Over a light bass and some kinetic drums, Tala celebrates dodging the bullet that would be an ongoing relationship with her ex. As she says, “I thought I'd come back, but I didn't/ Thank God.”
Peach PRC, “Time of My Life”
At a time when many pop artists are choosing to do less, rising Australian Peach PRC is moving in the exact opposite direction. With her latest song “Time of My Life,” Peach delivers a masterclass in pop maximalism as she relives some complicated memories through her own unique brand of rose-colored glasses. Add in the highly campy music video — which sees the singer blend her fairy princess aesthetic into an all-female prison — and you've got an incredibly fun pop track on your hands.
