One of the most memorable lines from Die Hard with a Vengeance was when Bruce Willis' character and Samuel L. Jackson's character were in a car making a getaway. Willis' John McClane went on to call Jackson's character Jesús because he heard a group of kids greet him earlier saying, “Hey, Zeus.” Growing increasingly irritated, Zeus asks McClane, “Why do you keep calling me Jesus? Do I look Puerto Rican to you?'
On a related note, Rasheed Chappell's new single and video takes us to the Passaic, NJ projects where he grew up and mentions a Jesus he happens to know. “Haysoos, not in the sky, him on the fifth floor,” he raps about a Latino dude who's always fighting with his short. And one can assume that this particular Jesús is indeed Puerto Rican.
Produced by Atlanta Hawks in-house DJ beatsbyjblack and The Arcitype with SoundsLikeDen on the hook, “Haysoos” is a harsh look at the realities facing marginalized communities across the country and directed by Edwin Decena along with his descriptive bars Sheed, captures their bars. as if we were watching this dark reality through a glass.
Rasheed Chappell is about to drop his ninth project Direct: JFK > ATL on August 30 and will be fully produced by beatsbyjblack.
