Rema & Selena Gomez's 'Calm Down' Remix Video Hits 1 Billion YouTube Views

Rema and Selena Gomez's remix video for the Afrobeats star's 2022 single “Calm Down” has crossed the one billion view mark on YouTube. The visual for the song which originally appeared on Nigerian singer Rema's debut studio album in February 2022, Rave & Rosesgot a second life in August of that year, when Gomez stepped into the visual for the sultry jam.

In the video, both singers hang out in a living room with green walls and colorful wallpaper, with Gomez dancing seductively behind a beaded curtain and swaying her hips next to Rema as she sings, “I see this beautiful girl, for my party, she wears yellow/ Every other girl is doing too much, but this girl is gloomy/ Naim, I find the situation, I go to use to say I'm “Hi”/ Finally, I find a way to talk to the girl, but I don't follows.”

Midway through the track, Gomez walks up to Rema and adds, “Yeah, I know I look shy, but I'm going down for you, wow/ And my hips make you cry when I'm around you/ Do it once, do it twice/ I push back you hold me tight.” The two then join forces on the chorus: “Baby, show me you can calm down, calm down/ Dance with me and take the lead now, lead now/ Got you so high you can't come down, come down” as the action shifts to an all-white garage where the couple pose in a vintage roadster.

In addition to breaking the billion mark on YT, the song set all sorts of records or records during its run on the chart, including the longest time at the top of Billboard's US Afrobeats Songs chart and the first song in history to spent a year on this chart (currently at 138 weeks) and the record for the first African song to chart a full year (57 weeks total) on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also holds the record for the most weeks spent ever on Billboard's Pop Airplay chart, logging an unprecedented 64 weeks since January 20 of this year; “Calm Down” surpassed the previous record holder, Harry Styles' “As It Was,” which had 63 weeks at the top in 2022-2023.
