Walking the tightrope between hope and heartbreaking devastation, the new single illustrates the dark side of its title, though at times it weaves threads of emotional clarity.
“In life, people often choose what is familiar to them rather than what is actually good for them,” Virtual Riot says. “There is safety in the familiarity of something, even if it may be detrimental to you, and that was the emotional state of mind in which I wrote the song.”
One True God’s haunting vocals kick in, and the unease is heightened by distant, eerie sound effects. A furious, twisted bassline envelops the drop, its ominous mid-tempo beat signature Rezz. Melodic elements play a continuous tug-of-war, perfectly painting a picture of the internal battle that plays out when you fight the urge to get back at someone or something you know is bad for you.
