“You can see me?” It sounds like a rhetorical question. But for Rezz, it's as tangible as the dark magic of his album of the same name.
Rezz's tendrils are infiltrating the broader consciousness as he claims the mantle of electronic music's supreme necromancer. She's No Longer a Whisper in the Shadows: The Prophecy of 2017's Big Debut, Mass manipulationIt's coming true.
“I can't tell you how much I care about that. I want to be influential,” Rezz says. EDM.com in an exclusive interview. “I want people to think that I'm going to go down in history. I won't settle for less than that… I've realized more than anything that I want people to really respect me.”
Grammys and plaques are welcome in your trophy room, but the true value lies in the influence. Isabelle Rezazadeh, the beating heart of Rezz, seeks to place an irreversible curse on electronic music, but not all curses are bad.
“It's not about external levels of success,” he tells me. “It's more that I care about people, my peers, artist friends, industry friends and, obviously, fans. I want the real ones to know that I am a respected artist. [and] The things I have done have influenced many people. That to me is priceless.”
My wife and I were indoctrinated by Rezz in 2017. Their performances are sinister and remarkably different from anything else on programming. The lights go out and the party stops. His red eyes pierce the abyss and the ritual begins. Whether you are a fanatic or a heretic, it is impossible to look away when the first note sounds, when paralysis gives way to an irresistible desire to move as if pulled by puppet strings.
A new-age puppeteer, Rezazadeh's preternatural ability to weave dance music and horror into a transcendent spectacle has earned her immeasurable recognition. Backstage at a festival in Vancouver in 2021, deadmau5 told me that Rezz was a “shining example” of innovation in a “stagnant group” of electronic music.
With the clock ticking as he moved his next chess piece, Rezazadeh spent years traveling from stage to stage, rooting himself in the raver's subconscious and scattering breadcrumbs. She is now designing a wicked world according to his design under Hypno Circus, a multi-day festival-style event akin to a dark carnival of the occult.
“Whether it will end up being a full festival, who knows, but one thing is for sure. I will definitely organize an event and it will be called Hypno Circus,” says Rezz. “Maybe it won't end up being quite a festival.” A crazy Lost Lands scale festival, but maybe it's two nights in a really amazing place where people can fly to the event and have two days. My stage will have a very circus brand.”
Looking into his crystal ball, he hopes Hypno Circus will be on a similar scale to “Rezz Rocks,” his trademark shows at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. He has yet to confirm a date, but sooner rather than later, he will signal for his birdies to come home.
“The key is that it will definitely be two nights,” Rezazadeh continues. “The idea is that people will travel to the event. We'll see what happens. I'll talk more about this with my team. It's definitely a matter of figuring out the location… In a perfect world, I would say next year, but we'll see what happens.” happens”.
Rezz didn't get this far by being reckless. Many ambitious souls have trapped themselves in corporate prisons trying to pull off large-scale events. Almost all first-year independent festivals burn cash: venue rental, artist fees, stage design, sound production, security, cleanliness and competition could well be the seven deadly sins of event planning.
It's a Herculean marketing feat for new organizers and a huge risk for artists who stake their reputations on the outcome. This nightmarish burden does not go unnoticed by Rezazadeh.
“Sometimes people who have been in the industry much longer than me have told me not to even do that,” he says. “'Go to music festivals, make money, and leave. Don't put yourself through that headache.' I know some people personally, some really big artists who have had festivals and gotten very mixed reviews about what they were about. Apparently “It was very stressful.”
“There are a lot of financial things to consider,” he adds. “I do want to take those risks, because it wouldn't be cheap at all. That would cost a lot, a lot of money.”
Hypno Circus will be Rezazadeh's greatest tool of control, but it is not his only means of influence. The “Cult of Rezz” can spread her message more powerfully than ever after the announcement that he will be selling her exclusive LED glasses.
Another ritual item on every treasure hunter's list is the “Hypno Dildo”, a Rezz brand sex toy that sold out in less than 30 minutes. Demand is high, but fans shouldn't expect a successor anytime soon.
“We haven't really had conversations about the V2 topic yet because it was for fun and I also wanted to see how the people who received the dildos would behave toward them,” Rezazadeh explains. “I'm certainly not trying to create any kind of uncomfortable environment for anyone. I've already seen a couple of cases of people bringing dildos to events. That's why we made sure to make a very limited quantity.”
“Evidently my intention to sell it was a joke and if you are going to use it, keep it at home,” he continues. “You can't control what everyone does. The only reason I haven't been fully shown the V2 yet is because I don't know if I want to open that situation. We'll see what happens, but it's certainly not on the conversation radar in terms of merchandising right now. I have much better ideas, but that was really funny and hilarious and I'm glad it happened.”

Rezz's quest for immortality is underway. However, the green eyes under the red lenses are very human.
Rezazadeh is honest about the toll touring takes on her. She previously expressed how she spiraled into depression, insomnia and a hospital visit as she embarked on the 2022 “Spiral” tour, the biggest headlining tour of her career.
Those struggles prompted her to cut back on road trips and produce her new project in a home studio. Rezazadeh is filled with pride when she talks about her latest album. YOU CAN SEE ME?describing herself as a legitimate fan of the project.
The overwhelming impact of the “Spiral” tour encouraged her to better manage her workload. The performances are better spaced to meet her physical and spiritual needs and she now has “a pretty decent understanding” of them, she says.
Still, like all the inhabitants of this interstellar rock, Space Mom is prone to making miscalculations.

“There was a moment when I almost collapsed on stage,” Rezazadeh reflects when talking about a series of performances in Australia last year. “Literally. I was at my fifth show in four days and had just flown on a plane from a city to land and play another show. I was very nutrient deprived. Very dehydrated. Lack of sleep. Delirious and had to sit in a chair While playing the show I thought, 'This is another example of something I thought I could do and I did it, but it wasn't easy and it wasn't worth it and I'm not going to do it again.'”
“I feel bad because I feel like the international fans are obviously upset that I don't go there much, but I literally can't risk my health in this situation. I don't have other people's build,” he laments. . “Some other people really have a different constitution. I don't have the same constitution in terms of being able to function on two hours of sleep. I'm like a psychopath when I do that.”
Many artists are prisoners of touring, feeding the industry's gluttonous appetite. But Rezazadeh has created a better reality. He has enacted the law of equivalent exchange, trading an overwhelming travel schedule for abundant creative expression.
His latest album is his most satisfying, his performances are occasions of success, and he's putting together the pieces for a wonderfully evil world of his own. It's a terrifying proposition for persistent non-believers, but its time will come.
