Well, it's official. Kang The Conqueror script by Jonathan Majors is no more and Dr. Doom will take the helm is the next big bad villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Last weekend social media was abuzz with more than just their praise Deadpool & Wolverine (the movie was great) but with shock as it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the MCU, but instead of reviving the iconic Iron Man character, RDJ will take on the mantle of Victor Von Doom, aka Dr. Doom. The big surprise came during Marvel's panel at San Diego Comic Con and blew the roof off the place after Robert Downey pulled out a cheap Dr. Doom to reveal that he had been asked to take over as Kang The's rumored replacement for the Majors. Conqueror.
The big reveal had many fans speculating about how Dr. RDJ's Doom in the MCU. While many believe he will be a variation of Tony Stark's Iron Man in a different Marvel Universe, it has been reported that he will be Victor Von Doom and not Tony Stark.
While some are concerned that this casting choice might hurt the legacy RDJ left behind with the Iron Man iteration, we should note that the Russo Brothers will be helming the next Avengers films (Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars) and if you've been following the movies they've directed for Marvel Studios, you know they're basically 4 – 4 with their record. Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame they are all definitely in my top 5 Marvel movies list. So we're sure they know what they're doing.
According to IG himself, Robert Downey Jr. is ready to step into the role, posting a photo of his next face mask and writing, “New mask, same job.”
Looks like it's up to RDJ to save the Marvel Cinematic Universe again.
But the return of Robert Downey Jr. in the MCU wasn't the only news Marvel released during its SDCC panel over the weekend. They also revealed that the The fantastic four the movie will be called First steps and will take place in an alternate Marvel universe where they face off against Galactus and the female version of the Silver Surfer, and the Thunderbolts movie is officially in the works and will hit theaters in 2025.
