Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have been performing “When the Levee Breaks” live together for several years; now, to celebrate their last tour that begins this week (get tickets here)the duo have shared a studio recording of the song.
The new version of “When the Levee Breaks” is the first release from Plant and Krauss since their 2021 album Raise the roof. Taking some cues from Led Zeppelin's 1971 cover of Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy's original, the duo's new arrangement breathes new life into the song, with rich harmonies, a dazzling violin part, and an American acoustic feel.

The single comes just days after Plant and Krauss launched their “Can't Let Go Tour” with a performance in Oklahoma. From there, they'll play cities across the country, making stops in North Carolina, New York, California, Canada and more. They will then join Willie Nelson on his annual “Outlaw Music Festival Tour” with Bob Dylan and other special guests. Get tickets for these upcoming dates here.
The new release of “When the Levee Breaks” is the latest Led Zeppelin song that Plant has reinvented, following his passionate version of “Stairway to Heaven” last October (the first time he performed it in 16 years). In March, he sang The Who's “Baba O'Riley” alongside Roger Daltrey, Eddie Vedder and more at the Teenage Cancer Trust's 2024 concert.
