Roc Nation Launches Campaign to Help Underprivileged Students Secure $300 Million in Scholarships

Roc Nation has spearheaded many philanthropic initiatives in the past, and Jay-Z's company's latest campaign hones in on improving youth education for students in Philadelphia.

Roc announced an initiative Friday (June 7) that will help students with about $300 million in scholarships. The funding will give underprivileged children in grades K-12 the opportunity to attend prestigious private schools and various educational institutions throughout Philly.

Roc Nation will try to spread awareness by event hosting runs daily from June 10th through June 21st throughout the greater Philadelphia area. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the PASS (Pennsylvania Award for Student Success) program, also known as Senate Bill 757.

“We've enjoyed such a special connection with Philadelphians, so we've made it our mission to invest in the long-term success of the city's creators,” said Dania Diaz, CEO of Roc Nation Philanthropy. “Impact starts with students and awareness. We want to empower youth and families with the knowledge to pursue their scholastic dreams, make their voices heard and become the leaders of tomorrow.”

Scholarship amounts for students vary by age group and level of education. Half-day kindergartners will receive $2,500, K-8th graders will receive $5,000, and middle schoolers can secure $10,000. Children with special needs of any age will be eligible to collect $15,000 in scholarship funding. In order for a student to receive a scholarship, their family cannot meet more than 250 percent of the federal poverty line, which currently stands at $75,000 for families of four.

Hov and Roc Nation are no strangers to uplifting and connecting with the Philadelphia community over the years. The Roc previously hosted the annual Made In America festival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and the REFORM Alliance helped introduce legislation to help citizens on parole or probation in Pennsylvania.
