Rock music had its turn in the spotlight this season of NBC The voice, thanks in large part to contestant Huntley. The Virginia blues rocker, who goes by one name, was crowned the season 24 winner on Tuesday night (December 19) after performing several rock songs during the competition, including Creed's “Higher” in the finale .
The father of two, 33, sang “Higher” on Monday night during the two-part finale, bringing his powerful, soulful voice to Creed's monster hit. The 1999 song will have a moment in 2023, as it has also been used as a rallying cry for the World Series champion Texas Rangers.
On Tuesday night, Huntley was named The voice champion, winning the national vote over runner-up Ruby Leigh, a 16-year-old country singer.
Huntley wowed the coaches throughout season 24, starting with a soulful performance of The Black Crowes' “She Talks to Angels” during the blind auditions, earning her the four-chair turn from John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire. She brought her 6-year-old daughter Stella on stage to help her choose her coach, and she ultimately chose Horan.
Other songs Huntley performed in the various rounds included “Hold My Hand” by Hootie & The Blowfish, “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi and Joe Cocker’s version of “With a Little Help from My Friends” by The Beatles. She also dueted with Horan on the Bob Dylan classic “Knockin' on Heaven's Door” during Tuesday night's episode.
Huntley's win comes as Creed will have a big year in 2024. The band will reunite for their first shows in more than 10 years, starting with a pair of cruises in April and followed by a full-scale North American tour in the summer . The tickets are available here.
