Barbie and Oppenheimer are both nominated for Best Picture at this year's Oscars, and the months-long tension between the films has come to a head
The long-term tension between Barbie and Oppenheimer culminated in an epic showdown between Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling at the 2024 Academy Awards. The actress and actor served as one-man armies for their respective sides Barbenheimer battle, determined to end the debate once and for all.
“Ken and Kitty, they're just leaving this whole problem in the dust, right Ryan?” Blunt offered, mentioning their characters and extending what seemed only for a moment like an offer of truce. But then he added: “And the way this awards season has gone, it hasn't been that much of a competition.”
The awards leading up to the 2024 Oscars had big wins Oppenheimer, but Gosling thinks they saved the best for last. “I think I figured out why they call it 'Barb-enheimer' and not 'Oppen-Barbie,'” he told Blunt. “I believe you are at the end of this situation because you were riding Barbiehis coats all summer.”
The fight escalated to Blunt calling out Gosling for having to paint his abs, which struck deeper than any of the other shots. Immediately following the skit, which came as a stunt tribute, the Best Supporting Actor award was presented. He provided a team Oppenheimer with another win as Robert Downey Jr. was awarded the Oscar, beating out Gosling.
With this, the Barbenheimer The battle continues — the films have yet to compete for Best Picture. But the way the night goes, both Barbie and Oppenheimer they may have to look over their shoulder for a possible sneak attack from Poor. The film has won both films twice so far, taking home the Best Costume Design and Best Production Design trophies and losing Oppenheimer in the best make-up and hairstyle.
