Ariana Grande he was working late Saturday Night Live this weekend, because she's a singer – not that you'd be able to tell from her hilarious banter Sabrina Carpenter“Espresso” during the live comedy show on Saturday (Oct. 12).
And a day after the sketch — which featured the Bad star stumbles through summery-sounding parody lyrics as part of an awkward bridesmaid tribute — the “Please Please Please” singer shared her reaction. “Pretty cool on the field too,” Carpenter joked on her Instagram Story, reposting a clip of the skit and adding some heart emojis.
THE Girl meets world The alum also tagged Grande and the SNL Cast members who played bridesmaids alongside the “We Can't Be Friends” artist in the wedding reception-themed skit: Heidi Gardner, Sarah Sherman and Ego Nwodim. While toasting a bride played by Chloe Fineman in front of her groom played by Andrew Dismukes, the quartet reveal through their performance of “Espresso” that their bachelorette journey wasn't exactly innocent.
“Now we're back home in the hot tub/ She's there with Domingo,” the bridesmaids sing to the tune of Carpenter's Billboard Hot 10 top 10 chorus, as Dismukes watches in horror. “He asks us to leave, to get a hotel/ It is given with Domingo.”
Sharing the “Feather” singer's assessment on her own Instagram Story, Grande replied, “We tried.”
Her “Espresso” skit was just one of many hilarious moments on Saturday's Grande-hosted episode. Although she made a concerted effort not to showcase her usually gorgeous vocals at the bridesmaid's toast, the three-time Grammy winner did get to use her talents in a few other scenes – despite the fact that Stevie Nicks appeared as the musical guest in her place.
In her opening monologue, for example, Grande did a few runs in front of a kick-ass line, moments after pledging to keep her appearance on the show low-key. Elsewhere, the pop star impersonated Celine Dion, sang an ode to the unique scent of his best friend's house and did operatic chops while portraying a young Italian musical prodigy called Antonio.
Grande's second hosting comes eight years after she first headlined the show in 2016 and seven months after she appeared as the musical guest earlier this year to perform tracks from her Billboard 200-topping album Eternal Sunshine. In May Carpenter built her SNL debut, singing 'Espresso' and 'Please Please Please' on the show hosted by Jake Gyllenhaal.
