Sammy Hagar was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday (April 30th), joined by a number of his famous friends for the ceremony.
Celebrity chef (and Hagar look-alike) Guy Fieri had the honor of being the emcee of the festivities, while John Mayer and Hagarβs longtime manager Tom Consolo also spoke at the event. In attendance were the Red Rockerβs Van Halen bandmate Michael Anthony and Chickenfoot bandmate Chad Smith.
Mayer spoke of the pure joy that Hagar has for life, exclaiming, βWherever you are, whatever youβre doing, Sammy Hagar is having way more fun than you!β
Hagar, meanwhile, got emotional during his time at the podium, explaining that he βstarted out with nothing.β The rock legend continued, βWe never owned a home, we barely owned a car. Alcoholic father [who was] abusive. My mother raised four kids without an education.β
He went on, βWhen I was young, that used to embarrass me. β¦ But now, Iβm so proud of that. To be here with that star, and come from nothing, that makes me proud.β
The 76-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer added that he had no plans to retire. βI donβt have a last tour in me,β he insisted. βMy DNA doesnβt ever quit. My DNA isnβt about retirement.β
Hagar will keep the train rollinβ this summer when he heads out on the βBest of All Worldsβ tour with an all-star backing band of Anthony, Joe Satriani, and Jason Bonham. The foursome will be playing a Van Halen-heavy set on the North American run, which kicks off July 13th in West Palm Beach, Florida (tickets available here).
