“I'm very emotional about it,” the singer told the show, which was attended by survivors and family members of the 2016 mass shooting. “This shit shouldn't happen. Don't forget it.”
Madonna remembered the victims of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting on Tuesday at the singer's concert in Miami, a concert attended by many survivors of the deadly massacre at the LGBTQ+ nightclub in Orlando.
Madonna herself invited Pulse shooting survivors as well as family members of those killed in the June 12, 2016 mass shooting that left 49 dead and more than 50 injured.
“I want to draw attention to that moment because nightclubs, music and dancing are what bring us together,” Madonna told the crowd. “It should not be places or things we do that bring us sorrow and tragedy and murder and death and pain and suffering and trauma. But unfortunately, human beings are still stuck in some kind of rut.”
Madonna, who called the Pulse shooting “the biggest terrorist attack in America since 9/11,” then pointed out survivors and family members in the crowd.
“I will always support gay people, always, because gay people have always supported me,” he continued. “I'm very emotional about it. I make dance music. My job is to bring people together, make people dance, make people happy, not judge. This mess shouldn't happen. Don't forget it.”
Tuesday's concert was the third and final concert of The Celebration tour in Miami. the trek will then take on Austin, Texas and Mexico City before wrapping up with a record-breaking free show on May 4 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
