Serena Williams made her way into a circle pit at Green Day’s show on Saturday (September 14th) in Inglewood, California, as she celebrated one of her favorite bands. The tennis G.O.A.T. also paid tribute to singer Billie Joe Armstrong on Instagram shortly thereafter.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen Serena rocking out at a concert, as she and sister Venus were spotted at an Alice in Chains show in 2022. And her fandom of Green Day goes way back, with Armstrong once telling Jimmy Kimmel that Serena has come to multiple shows.
Footage from the Inglewood stop of the punk band’s “Saviors” tour (pick up tickets here) shows Serena and a friend in a very cheerful circle pit during Green Day’s performance. The tennis star, who won a whopping 23 Grand Slam titles during her illustrious career, has a big smile on her face as she runs around in complete delight.
Following the gig, Armstrong shared his gratitude with fans for a “triumphant show” in a video message on Instagram. One of the commenters happened to be Serena, who wrote, “Love you Billie!!!!!!”
Green Day’s “Saviors” tour — which finds the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band playing their classic albums Dookie and American Idiot in their entireties, and features support from the Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas — continues through a September 28th show in San Diego. Pick up tickets here, and see our review and photo gallery of the tour’s stop at Citi Field in Queens, New York, earlier this summer.
